Registry Cleanup- Registry Cleanup Tools and Utility

Common to all equipment, a computer needs regular maintenance. Aside from physical preservation, we need to clean what is inside the computer in the form of software. One important part of the computer that needs cleaning is the Windows registry. Registry cleaner or oftentimes called registry cleanup is a software that clears away useless files specifically intended for Microsoft Windows.

On the other hand, the use of the registry cleanup is being questioned by experts regarding its effectiveness and needs. It is also linked to malicious software like scareware and malware.

However, if you will attempt to clean the Windows registry manually, it would be impractical and unrealistic due to the bulk and complexities involved regarding the database of the registry. Hence, it is only proper to install registry cleanup software to locate invalid entries and broken links and if necessary, correct them automatically. If done manually. this will consume a lot of time.

Further, other registry cleaners allow you to have a backup and go back to the original condition of the registry prior to the corrections made by the software if the user so desires. Hence, this can be a big help to a user who constantly adds or deletes a program.

In some cases, registry cleaner is not needed. An example of which is the old edition of Windows wherein the registry entry indicates that it will run on startup. Nonetheless, if the network path does not exist, there will be delay in the startup process because the network protocol will take some time to rest. All that is needed here is a free tool like AutoRuns from Microsoft (formerly Sysinternals).

With all the controversies surrounding registry cleanup, Mark Russinovich, expert Windows architecture expert, stated that unless all applications are transferred to .NET Framework platform, registry cleaners will always be a necessity.

With all the advantages noted in a registry software cleaner, it has also its own disadvantages. According to some reviewers, it has no capacity to identify valid key from an invalid one. Thus, the error cannot be categorized as to its severity. As a result, the registry cleaner will not be able to function properly leading to instability of the computer system. Moreover, they noted that registry cleaners that are badly designed are incapable of identifying a particular key currently in use by Windows. It does not have the capacity to analyze the possible damage or even extent of the damages it may bring whatever it is they will remove.
