What to Do If your PC Crashes- Improve PC Performance
You may not know it but a PC crash may happen from a single file being out of place to a simple malfunction from a newly installed hardware.
If your computer is still covered by warranty, don’t do anything drastic but simply get in touch with the manufacturer for assistance. This way, you won’t void the computer warranty. Another option is to return the merchandise or have them send a technician to service the unit. There are other ways to improve the pc performance.
In case the computer is already beyond the warranty period, you can try the following tips if a PC crash takes place:
1. A simple reboot will do the trick in case of slow function, inconsistent actions or screen freeze. A screen freeze happens when the mouse is not responding; hence, turning off the computer usually can resolve the situation. You can wait for another minute before turning it on again.
2. There are times when a PC crash may be thought of as severe in nature; simply use the Systems Restore to bring you back to the spot prior to the happening of the crash. Just follow the following sequence; 1) Begin by clicking Start; 2) Click All Programs; 3) Click Accessories; 4) Click System Tools; 5) Click System Restore; 6) Choose a date prior to the crash; and lastly 7) Click Next. After you have clicked Next, the computer will begin to reinstate your computer and it will take a couple of minutes depending upon the files it will back up; wait a little while before proceeding with the restore function.
3. A different approach of doing it is by running scan disk. If you are using XP and Vista, this is referred to as Error Checking. This can be activated by turning off the computer then immediately turning it on again. If this does not restore your computer, perform the following series of actions; 1) Right click C: drive by going to My Computer; 2) Click Properties; 3) Click Tools; 4) Click Check Now in Error Checking section; 5) Check both boxes in the next window; 6) Lastly, click Start Now. A message will appear stating that Error Checking function will now begin after you reboot. Once, rebooted, it will automatically restart the computer to restore to normal and it will take a couple of minutes.
After a PC crash, it is always suggested to run Error Checking together with defrag. For XP and Vista, the procedures follow; 1) Click Start; 2) Click All Programs; 3) Click Accessories; 4) Click System Tools; 5) Finally, Click Disk defragmenter. It is advisable to defrag monthly, at least once, to restore the files back to its original position. Files tend to be misplaced as we do some browsing and downloading in the Internet or as we install or uninstall a certain software.
4. You can run the antivirus software for virus scan. This way, the software can detect if the crash was due to a virus. You will be guided by the anti virus software on what tasks to perform in case of a virus crash. If there’s no antivirus program installed in your computer, there are free trial versions available in the Internet for you to download. There are hosts of free trial antivirus software available to suit your needs. Once installed, antivirus program will run simultaneously while you are using your computer, hence, the equipment is properly protected.
5) If a virus scan proves ineffective, you can now try to run the registry scan. It can also improve PC performance. There are lots of websites offering PC scanning free of charge. These are also capable of determining if the crash was brought about by the registry. Again, there are free trial software available via the Internet which you can download, if you do not have one.
If you experience a PC crash, there is no need to be alarmed. All you have to do is follow the procedures mentioned and it will restore your computer back to life.
